Membership in the TEI Consortium is one of the most important ways to support the TEI's work. Institutional membership is for the calendar year and the fee is pro-rated after 180 days; new institutional memberships initiated within 90 days of the end of the calendar year will automatically be extended for the next calendar year at no extra charge. Individual memberships can be initiated at any time and will come up for renewal a year from when they begin; individual members who pay via PayPal can choose to have their membership fee charged on a recurring annual basis. The current list of members includes universities and colleges, research libraries, library consortia, academic and other non-profit publishers, as well as publishing associations, scholarly societies, and a range of commercial entities concerned with the design, production or delivery of structured electronic text.
